STEAM NUCLEATION MODELS FOR IMPURE STEAM: EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES

Abstract

The presence of chemical species (contaminants) in the steam phase significantly affects the condensation process and some of its important features: phase transition location in the plants, droplets growth and their dimensions, chemical composition and chemical-physical properties of the liquid formed on the structural material surfaces or in the steam bulk. Different models developed to describe and predict this behaviour are presented, with special emphasis on the kinetic models (homogeneous and heterogeneous), and their performances are compared in specific cases where experimental data have been collected. The characteristics and the performances of the experimental systems developed to run tests with condensing steam from power plants are also discussed.
