DIRECT DESULFURIZATION IN COMBINATION WITH POLISHING REACTOR

DOI: 10.1615/ICLASS-94.1400
pages 59-72

Abstract

The paper describes and discusses the key design features and results of lime injection in the furnace and gas humidification upstream of the electrostatic precipitator. The desulfurization plant has been installed under the co-sponsorship of the "Umweltbundesamt" Berlin in a 65 MWth stoker-fired boiler owned by Messrs. Boehringer Ingelheim in Ingelheim / W. Germany.
The results cover desulfurization efficiency, with and without flue gas humidification. Flue gas humidification in the polishing reactor resulted in an overall sulfur capture of better than 90 % at high boiler load and Ca/S stoichiometry of around 2. A desulfurization efficiency of approx 65 % was obtained with lime injection alone.
