Abstract

The TQM philosophy and methodologies are designed to help organizations involve their customers and employees in a process of continuous improvement Over time, use of the process results in added value, more reliable methods, and cost savings/avoidance. The Engineering and Construction Division of the Tennessee Eastman Division, a division of Eastman Chemical Company, has been employing the principles of total quality management for over six years. During this time, the division has seen a dramatic improvement in its key quality indicators of cost, responsiveness, and fitness for use. This paper outlines the philosophy of the company and the approach used by the Engineering and Construction Division in the areas of technical assistance, technology development and capital program management.
