Abstract

This paper addresses design and control of material and information flow in a dynamic and turbulent manufacturing environment. Particularly at the shop floor, enhancements are going to be made for reacting faster on production changes and disturbances. One of the tools to get an efficient material flow is simulation by which layout and control principles can be examined and optimized. It is discussed how simulation can be applied from design of production systems to be a powerful real-time support tool during production. New monitoring methods measure production performance key figures which are evaluated and works as the foundation for decision making. The methodology is demonstrated in 10 Danish manufacturing companies.
