Abstract
This paper first discusses the fundamentals of manufacturing system integration, then introduces the vision behind agent-driven modelling, and finally discusses the generic architecture of agent-based factory information systems. An illustrative example of its application is provided, based on a distributed planning and control scheme derived from a commercial implementation by the authors.
