Abstract

Whilst the science of fouling modelling and prediction has made significant progress in the last few years this has not been translated in to equivalent benefits to the process industries. The complex nature of most 'real' fouling situations means that empirical approaches are still the norm. However, one approach which shows promise is the use of on-line monitoring technology capable of accurate simulation of process plant exchanger surfaces in the field. This paper describes the recently developed NEL Process Fouling Monitor and illustrates its use in monitoring the fouling propensity of cooling waters.
