AGRICULTURAL NOZZLES DESIGN FOR SPRAY DRIFT REDUCTION

Sinopsis

This paper presents direct measurements of airborne spray volume distribution with height at 2m down-wind of three systems, that use different physical principles, for reducing drift from agricultural boom sprayers. The method of direct drift measurement is also compared with a commonly used drift indicator, based on the % volume of droplet with diameters less than 100 µm, which can be derived from available data or easily measured using light scattering droplet size measuring instrumentation. However, the correlation between this convenient drift indicator and direct drift volume measurements is sensitive to the range of spray source distribution presented in this paper. The % volume of droplets with diameters less than 100 µm is therefore rejected as a good indicator of spray drift for agricultural boom sprayer applications.
