TECHNOECONOMIC EVALUATION OF GROUND SOURCE HEAT PUMPS FOR INSTITUTIONAL BUILDINGS

Sinopsis

A one-year energy analysis project has been initiated to monitor the performance of a unique ground source heat pump (GSHP) system in an institutional facility. The buildings that comprise the facility are low energy buildings. The objectives are (i) to study and evaluate the energetic, environmental and economic performance of the buildings, the GSHP and the heating, ventilating and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems using the data collected and computerized building simulation studies; (ii) to study and evaluate the indoor air quality (IAQ) and comfort performance of the facility; and (iii) to extrapolate the findings of the study to residential, commercial and institutional buildings of comparable size. The buildings and the GSHP system, as well as the details of the monitoring project are described here along with preliminary results.
