Chlorinated Waste Destruction by Plasma Pyrolysis

Sinopsis

In the plasma system laboratory a rotating arc device has been used as the plasma generator and/or the primary reactor. In the first case the atomized fluid is injected into the hollow plasma, in the second one the chemical medium is at first gasified and then it is supplied upstream of the rotating arc as a working gas. The arc temperature profiles have been measured spectroscopically with the use of the self-scanning technique and the results show that the maximum of the temperature appears at the arc front where is the arc core. The destruction of CCl4 has been chosen as a model chlorinated compound and it was tested in two modes in the arc plasma reactor. Thermochemical equilibrium computation of the CCl4 and CCl4 with some added reactants has been done to compare it with experimental results. To avoid the sooting during processing of CCl4 the reaction with the steam was the best, however with higher consumption of energy.
