Sinopsis

To clarify the influence of fluid properties on the disintegration of wavy liquid sheets a new measuring technique could be developed, which allows to measure directly characteristic frequencies, wavelengths and wave travel velocities of disturbancies on moving sheets. This measuring technique has been applied to a small fan spray atomizer. Successful measurements were performed using liquids with different viscosities and surface tensions. Furthermore, the liquid sheet velocities before break-up as well as the size and velocity distributions of the droplets after film break-up could be obtained by additional LDA and PDA measurements
