Sinopsis

The one way interaction between decaying isotropic turbulence and dispersed droplets is studied experimentaly using the Phase Doppler interferometry. In this paper we examine the influence of turbulence on droplet dispersion. This paper presents a simple mechanistic study on the droplet response in particle-laden turbulent flow based on the interaction of a particle with eddies. Two predominant mechanisms for the droplet behavior are identified: (a) the Stokes number appears to be the predominant mechanism for the amplitude response of droplets and (b) the droplet response rime variation with the droplet size. The effect of the two mechanisms are combined to yield the overall droplet response characteristics.
