Sinopsis
Concurrent design and manufacturing is an efficient way to improve quality and reduce the development time of a product. Process planning links design and manufacturing. This paper discusses the results from the research on the development of a Feature-based Process Planning System (FBAPP). In this system, manufacturing features are extracted and recognized, design data is automatically converted into manufacturing-specific semantic information and passed to process planning, and the process plans can be directly generated from a CAD model.
