Sinopsis

Based on the numerous problems and deficiencies which occur with the machining of sculptured surfaces /1, 2, 3/, a new process sequence was designed and realized within the current project "Werkstattgerechte Nutzerunterstiitzung bei Freiformflachenbearbeitungen" (WNF) sponsored by the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research). In the following it will be called the WNF process sequence. Characteristic features of the WNF process sequence are the machining model as an extension of the existing NC interface according to DIN 66025 and an increased scope of action directly at the control system due to a so-called WNF processor. Contrary to the shopfloor-oriented NC programming (WOP), in this case the emphasis is placed on modifying and optimizing control programs for the machining of sculptured surfaces (WOM). The WNF processor is realized by extensive modifying functions in various controls and by connecting it to preceding, commercially available NC programming or so-called CAD/CAM systems.
