INVESTIGATION OF THE ELECTRIC FIELD EFFECT ON THE HEAT TRANSFER FROM THE SWIRLING FLAME

Sinopsis

The objective of this experimental study is to ascertain the electric field effect on the swirling flame formation, followed by the processes of the field-enhanced heat/mass transfer along the flame channel flow. The investigations were performed under conditions of suppressed mixing of the axially injected fuel (propane) flow with the separately introduced air swirl, which has a strong tangential velocity component. The electric field effect on the fuel combustion was evaluated from the development of the flame temperature and composition profiles along the swirling flame channel flow by varying the bias voltage and polarity of the axially inserted central electrode. The calorimetric measurements of the cooling water flow were used to appreciate the electric field effect on the heat transfer. From the measurements of the flame radiation the influence of the electric field upon the soot formation and radiation heat transfer had been obtained.
