Objetivos y Alcance

The Journal of Porous Media publishes original full-length research articles (and technical notes) in a wide variety of areas related to porous media studies, such as mathematical modeling, numerical and experimental techniques, industrial and environmental heat and mass transfer, conduction, convection, radiation, particle transport and capillary effects, reactive flows, deformable porous media, biomedical applications, and mechanics of the porous substrate. Emphasis will be given to manuscripts that present novel findings pertinent to these areas. The journal will also consider publication of state-of-the-art reviews. Manuscripts applying known methods to previously solved problems or providing results in the absence of scientific motivation or application will not be accepted. Submitted articles should contribute to the understanding of specific scientific problems or to solution techniques that are useful in applications. Papers that link theory with computational practice to provide insight into the processes are welcome.

Call for Papers: Heat Transfer in Porous Media

Porous structures are widely encountered in almost all disciplines of science and engineering, such as mechanical engineering, material science, biology and biophysics, geophysics, chemical engineering, petroleum engineering, civil engineering and more. Transport phonemena with focus on heat transfer in porous media are of critical importance. Due to such inherently pseudo-continuous characteristics, thermal transport in porous media exhibits interesting behaviors which are usually absent in non-porous media. So far, a sheer volume of activities and publications have been devoted to heat transfer in porous media. However, with the emergence of cutting-edge knowledge and technology as well as interdisciplinary integration, heat transfer in porous media has shown several unique trends and wavefronts in recent years, such as heat transfer within nano-pores, coupled fluid flow and heat transfer for nanofluids in porous media, and reactive flow through porous media.

The objective of this special issue is to provide a top-notch platform for world-renowned researchers in the area of heat transfer in porous media to report their most up-to-date high-quality progress and highlight the possible future directions from their professional insights. Theoretical derivation, model development, engineering application, and experimental validation on heat transfer in porous media in different scales (from nano- to environmental-scale) are welcome in this special issue. Proposed sub-topics of this special issue include, but are not limited to, the following:

Recent advances in

1. mathematical modeling of heat transfer in porous media
2. numerical and computational methods for simulation of heat transfer in porous media
3. pore-scale and macro-scale simulation of heat transfer in porous media
4. experimental studies focused on heat transfer in porous media
5. thermal properties of porous materials
6. multi-phase flows and heat transfer in porous media
7. phase change materials for thermal energy storage
8. geologic flow and heat transfer studies (thermal enhanced oil recovery, underground thermal energy storage)
9. biomechanics and heat transfer in biological systems
10. various applications of enhanced heat transfer techniques using porous media (such as compact heat exchangers, solar collectors, energy storage units)
11. multi-physics transport phenomena including heat transfer in porous media (such as coupled fluid flow, heat and mass transfer, reactive flow, magnetohydrodynamics, combustion, boiling, evaporation, and condensation phenomena on the surfaces of porous layers)
