DEVELOPMENT OF A MATERIAL TRACKING STRATEGY FOR AN ADVANCED MANUFACTURING SYSTEM

This paper reports on the development of a material tracking plan for a prototype production facility that demonstrates computer integrated manufacturing of shelf-stable food products for both military and civilian markets. A material tracking strategy that utilizes backwards tracking of time coded production events is designed. Such a design enables a trace from finished product back through key production operations to the raw ingredients used in manufacture. Hardware and software requirements for the implementation of the plan are also addressed.
