Résumé
Experimental electrical performance results of a novel electrostatic atomizer are presented that show the effect of variations in flow rate, electrical conditions and atomizer design on the maximum volumetric specific charge a charged insulating spray may contain. It has been demonstrated that the radial electric field at the jet surface is the limiting factor in terms of atomizer performance. It is deduced that, at a constant injection velocity, the spray specific charge has an inverse proportionality with orifice diameter. Higher flow rates also increases the spray specific charge achievable and atomization is improved with increased specific charge and injection velocity.
