Résumé
In this report we present a new formula for the calculation of the rotational velocity of a magnetically driven arc in a plasma torch as function of the operating parameters: the current, the magnetic field and the axial gas velocity. The knowledge of the arc velocity is of great importance for the study of the erosion of cold electrodes in plasma torch, as it was shown in a series of companion papers. The investigated range of the parameters comprised by the
formula is: current, 100−1760 A; magnetic induction, 0.005−3.9 T and axial gas velocity, 0.5−33 ms−1.
