Résumé
This paper describes the structure of a computer aided process planning system for mechanical parts which will be manufactured in small batches, by material removal operations. The system is designed in such a way that it can be integrated with CAD-systems, with the aim to provide designers with manufacturability feedback. Moreover, a link with scheduling is established to take the workload of the shop floor into account during process planning. The paper focuses on the setup planning function within the process planning system.
The described approach is implemented in a system called "Design To Manufacture" (DTM), in cooperation with industrial partners.
