Résumé

This paper presents a Production Planning System currently under development at the CIMS Research Centre, University of Limerick, Ireland. The system is intended to overcome many of the traditional data related problems by using database technologies supported by a computer network to facilitate data collection. It is being written in a 4th generation database language called FOCUS 6.1 and uses an Material Requirements Planning (MRP) based change management module to allow greater flexibility and better planning. It does however use bottleneck scheduling techniques for schedule development which is not typical of MRP type systems and is therefore a hybrid type system.
