INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING RESEARCH AND AUTOMATION IN ELECTRONIC PRODUCT MANUFACTURING

Résumé
This paper addresses the industrial engineering research directions taken in the electronic product manufacturing industry. "Electronic product" is considered to be an assembly which is composed of a printed circuit card subassembly, but may contain other major components as well. Examples cited from literature lead one to the conclusion that the research is primarily concerned with the printed circuit card assembly alone. The manufacturing processes necessary to produce the final, electronic product are not as highly targeted for research investigation. A proposed transition from manual to robotic assembly will highlight the need to include capital investment in evaluating any approach's cost-effectiveness.
