A TEST PLANT FOR TREATING HALOGENATED HYDROCARBONS USING STEAM PLASMA TECHNOLOGY - THE PLASMA THERM PLANT -

要約

At the Steinbeis-Transferzentrum-Raumfahrtsysteme (TZ-RS), in cooperation with German companies and university institutes, a plasma process plant was designed and set up for the treatment of gaseous and liquid halogenated waste.
The plant consists of a plasma unit followed by a caustic quench-scrubber-system and a combustion chamber. As plasma source a newly developed atmospheric steam plasma torch is used.
In parallel to the experimental activities the chemical reactions of the thermal cracking of halogenated hydrocarbons is studied theoretically using the thermodynamical equilibration approach. The aim of this work is to develop an optimal process performance, which means the optimal throughputs of water, oxygen, hydrogen carrier and waste to find a general rule for the treatment of groups of halogenated substances in plasma reactors. With this small technical plant at the TZ-RS the technology was demonstrated and it was shown, that the exhaust gas pollutants remain under the limits of local laws in Germany.
