Author Instructions for International Journal on Innovations in Online Education

Submitting Articles through the Begell House Online Submission Site

DESCRIPTION OF PAPERS CONSIDERED FOR PUBLICATION: The aim for International Journal on Innovations in Online Education (IJIOE) is to providethe most updated information in the field of online higher, with specific emphasis on what is new and likely to affect this field of education. IJIOE focuseson Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) online education, including related fields such as healthcare. IJIOE is the purveyor of “WISDOM” about the field, providing short articles, discussions with expert authors and reviews of methods for moving the field forward in selected areas.

The scope of IJIOE includes all of online higher education, but has a loose focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) and healthcare. Articles are managed by “stream editors,” experts in specific streams of interests within this scope, including disciplines within the above content areas.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS: All articles for IJIOE must be submitted through the Begell House Submission Site. If you are already a registered user begin at https://submission.begellhouse.com/usr/login.html?prod_code=journals, enter your username and password, and click on the Login button. If you are not a registered user follow the instructions below.

Within seconds you will receive an email providing you with your username and temporary password (again remember this email may go into your junk/spam folder). Once you receive the email containing your logon information, return to https://submission.begellhouse.com/usr/login.html?prod_code=journals, enter your username and temporary password, and click Login. On the next screen you will be asked to provide a password of your choice. Enter the password and click Login. You will now be logged onto the submission site. If the email that you used when you originally registered is no longer available to you please contact journals for assistance.

PROCEDURES FOR PROCESSING ARTICLES FOR POSSIBLE PUBLICATION:

  1. PREPARATION OF ELECTRONIC ARTICLE FILES:
Write in clear, concise English. The author is responsible for all aspects of article preparation. Extensive changes to the article will not be undertaken by the Editor or during the production process. Each manuscript must be accompanied by a statement that it has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been simultaneously submitted for publication elsewhere.
  2. ORIGINAL ARTICLES SUBMITTED:
Original article submitted for possible publication in IJIOE, the initial manuscript should be submitted in a single file that includes all figures and tables in a single column and be submitted in MS-Word. Please use 12- point type and Times New Roman typeface for all text and figure captions. Please ensure that high quality figures and tables are provided and that any text that is an actual part of the figures be no less than 9-point type.
  3. DECLARATION OF ORIGINALITY: Each article submitted must be accompanied by a statement that the article has not been published elsewhere and that it has not been simultaneously submitted for publication elsewhere. The original electronic files of drawings, photos and the article should be retained by the author until the conclusion of the publication process. This statement should also confirm that all tables and figures are your original work and no permissions are required.

    1. Generative AI Declaration: Authors should only use generative artificial intelligence (AI) and AI-assisted technologies to improve readability and language in the writing process. AI can produce legitimate-seeming text that may be factually incorrect and problematic in other ways.

Authors must disclose in their manuscript the use of AI and AI-assisted technologies in the writing process by adding a statement at the end of the main manuscript, prior to the references section. The statement will appear in the published article. Authors are ultimately responsible and accountable for the work, regardless of the tools used.

      The statement should read:

During the preparation of this work the author(s) used [NAME TOOL / SERVICE] in order to [REASON]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the publication.

This declaration is only needed if AI was used in the writing process. It is not needed for the use of basic tools for checking grammar, spelling, references, etc. It is also not needed for the use of AI tools to analyze data as part of the research process. If there is nothing to disclose, there is no need to add a statement.
  4. PERMISSIONS:
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce copyrighted material from other sources. If permissions are needed and not included with the final draft of the article, the article will not be processed for publication until all permissions are received. Please note that if a figure or table was previously published the copyright for that figure is usually owned by the publisher not the author. ALL PERMISSIONS MUST BE UPLOADED, WITH THE FINAL DRAFT OF YOUR ARTICLE, BEFORE YOUR ARTICLE CAN BE PROCESSED.
  5. REVIEW PROCESS: The editor will seek reviews of submitted articles from appropriate experts and will do their best to have the articles reviewed as quickly as possible. It would be helpful if you recommend 5 potential Reviewers when submitting your original manuscript. Reviewer suggestions will be vetted to avoid potential conflicts of interest; please see the Begell House ethics policy at https://www.begellhouse.com/publication_ethics_and_malpractice_guidelines/. Editorial board members and others involved with the editorial process who submit articles will have those articles handled entirely by other members not directly involved in authoring the submitted manuscript. Each article will be reviewed by at least two reviewers. Submission implies that the author is willing to consider making any necessary revisions requested by the reviewer/editor. Retain all original figures until the conclusion of the publication process. Please upload your corrections onto the submission site.
  6. REVISIONS:
After your article has been reviewed the Editor will inform you if any revisions must be made before your article can be accepted for publication. If revisions are required you must upload your revised files onto the submission site using your original username and password. DO NOT register again on the submission site. DO NOT at any point in time delete any files.
  7. ACCEPTED ARTICLE:
After your article has been accepted for publication, please provide your electronic files in the following format: 12-point type, on US Letter (preferred) or A4, double spaced with 1-inch margins all around. Times New Roman is the preferred typeface for text. Acceptable format for text files is Microsoft Word. All pages should be numbered consecutively, centered at the bottom of each page. Your article should begin with the title information and end with pages containing references, tables, and figure legends (no figures, just legends). Figures must be submitted in either a separate file containing all figures or individual figure files. All figures must be labeled (example: 1, 2, 3, etc.) clearly for proper placement within the text. Figures must be submitted using the program file that was used to originally create the figure such as png, jpg, tiff, jpeg, eps, or similar programs. We also require that you provide a PDF of your complete article (text, tables, figures, etc.) which will be used to post on the journal homepage under Forthcoming articles. Once the article is posted under Forthcoming articles a DOI number will be provided so that the article can begin being cited. All files should be uploaded onto the submission site using your original username and password. If you have several files to upload you can combine all files into one ZIP file; when you upload the ZIP file the system will automatically extract the files. This process can only be done with ZIP files. Although you can use other compressed software programs (such as RAR) to upload your files they will not automatically extract files. After uploading your files onto the submission site please remember to click the Submit icon.
  8. TRANSMITTAL AND COPYRIGHT FORM:
These forms can be found on the Begell House submission site when you upload your manuscript files. Each article submitted for publication must include a signed copyright form. Please download the file, sign (please do not type), and either scan and upload it onto the submission site, fax to 203-456-6167, or email to journals. All accepted articles, artwork, and photographs become the property of the publisher. Copyright forms can also be found in the Authors Hub (https://submission.begellhouse.com/help/hub.html). We also require that you fill out a transmittal form. The transmittal form includes the following information: article title, short title for running heads, keywords (no more than 10 keywords), and all author names (include affiliation and e-mail addresses). Corresponding authors must include their complete mailing address, e-mail address, telephone number, and fax number.
  9. ALL ARTICLES MUST INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:
    • Author Information: Senior authors full name, affiliation, and e-mail address. Corresponding authors complete mailing address and e-mail address. Co-authors’ affiliation and email address.
    • Abstract: All articles must have an abstract not to exceed 250 words. Avoid abbreviations, diagrams, and reference to the text.
    • Key Words: All articles should have a list of key terms for indexing purposes. Three to ten key words or terms not in the title will assist indexers in cross-indexing your article.
    • Body: Group all tables, figures, and figure captions at the end of the article, following the references. Equations should be numbered sequentially. Use no more than two levels of headings. Number headings sequentially using numerals, as follows: level 1 headings 1., 2., 3., etc.; level 2 headings 1.1., 2.1., etc. For articles containing more than a few symbols, include a nomenclature list in alphabetical order, with Greek symbols (also in alphabetical order and with a separate heading) following the alphabetical listing in English. The Nomenclature section should be placed after keywords and before the Introduction section. All articles must use SI units throughout; English units may be included parenthetically. The superscripts and subscripts should follow the Greek symbols at the end of the nomenclature list.
    • Figures: Prepare figures so that they do not exceed the size of the journal pages (size requirements can be obtained by emailing journals). Use only Arial and Symbol fonts for text within figures. Text/symbols within the figure must be at least a size 9 point after rescaling to the final publication format. Acceptable formats for figures are PNG, TIFF, JPEG, or EPS files saved from the original application at 300-600 dpi. Because of the loss of resolution, embedding figure files in MS Word is not acceptable. Please do not send final figures in PDF format. The preferred format is TIFF; however, maintaining a clear quality of the figures is most important. Do not use gray rules, only black. If the text is printed over gray backgrounds for any reason, the gray must be at least 50% lighter than the text. If possible, avoid grayscales entirely. In general, for best results, figures must be submitted at the highest possible quality. Figure captions should be typed, on a separate sheet. The author can submit color figures that will print in black and white, but will be in color online. Color reproduction of figures for printed versions of the journal are possible at the author’s expense, rates will be provided upon request.
    • Tables: Tables should not be embedded in the text, but should be included at the end of the article. A short descriptive title should appear above each table with a clear legend and any footnotes suitably identified below. All units must be included.
    • Footnotes: Footnotes should be identified in the text by symbols (†,‡,§,¶, etc.) and cited within the paper. All footnotes should be compiled on a separate sheet.
Please Carefully Follow the Reference Formatting: Incorrectly formatted reference lists or reference callouts in the text will be returned to the author to correct before processing for publication.
    • Reference Format: Cite references in the text using the last name of the author(s) and the year of publication, as “(Doe and Johnson, 1992).” For more than three authors, use “Doe et al. (1992).” If any references contain identical authors and year of publication, cite in the form “Doe et al. (1992a)” and “Doe et al. (1992b).” References should be in alphabetical order and formatted according to the following samples.
