IMAGE PROCESSING OF FLOW PATTERNS IN ROTATING DRUMS WITH INNER SURFACE HEATING USING LIQUID CRYSTALS

Resumo

Unsteady flow in a rotating drum is generally quite complicated. This is especially true in the presence of inner surface heating due to the superposition of viscosity and buoyancy effects. The temperature distribution in the drum plays an important role on the recirculating flow pattern. Less effort has been directed to observe the temperature distribution on a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation, because of lack of non-invasive temperature measuring techniques.
