Resumo

A continuous flow, closed-loop experimental apparatus has been developed to measure scaling rates under controlled conditions. Water chemistry, flow velocity, scale surface temperature, and bulk water temperature can all be held constant within a run and varied independently between runs. Scaling rates can be inferred from thermal fouling rates, changes in bulk water chemistry, mass deposited, and scale thickness. The results will be used to construct a better mechanistic rate model for calcium carbonate scale growth.
