Resumo
This paper presents basic mathematical modeling of conventional and non-conventional flow fields of Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell. The numerical resolution of the model gives the profiles of oxygen concentration, current density, polarization and overall fuel cell power density at different cell over-potentials in both flow fields. The results demonstrated the superiority of a non-conventional flow field over the conventional type, due to enhancement of the convective term in species equation, leading to a substantial improvement in the fuel cell performance.
