Resumo
Design, construction, and operation of a simple controller unit for laser scanning system is reported here. The control system operates with a PC, and this feature makes the module compatible with other computer-controlled devices. An interface card was designed to provide reliable parallel communication means between the PC port and the stepper motors driver circuits. High data transfer rate, simple structure command setting, and easy understanding of the module functions are the major advantages of this system. A utility program is written in С language that can execute different instructions to control the drive system. This program is user friendly, and organized in a menu-driven format that makes its application quite simple. Synchronous and asynchronous operation of the reported system was tested and some of the results are reported.
