Аннотация
This paper describes a concept for development of flexible assembly systems (FAS's). Analysis of the state-of-the-art in FAS's shows three obstructions to industrial use of FAS's: (1) they do not suit the manufacturer's needs, (2) solutions lack flexibility and (3) strategic investment aspects are not considered.
The described concept enables development of manufacturer specific solutions. The concept is strongly assembly process based. It is divided into two parts: development of an assembly process based toolkit and configuration of a product assortment based FAS out of the toolkit.
