An experimental study has been carried out to investigate the influences of injection pressure and ambient pressure on the disintegrating process of a diesel spray for the case of high pressure fuel being injected at constant pressure through a single hole nozzle under quiescent ambient flow conditions.
In this study, diesel spray phenomena were photographed macroscopically as well as microscopically from the start of fuel injection to the fully developed state of the
spray with three steps of magnification. Topics which are not well understood up to date such as the disintegrating mechanism of the spray in a high pressure chamber, the
delay time in droplet formation and the transition in the developing spray tip have been investigated.
