Liquid bubble formation in the shear flow behind the hydrofoil

Project: Visualization of Mechanical Processes

Journal: Visualization of Mechanical Processes: An International Online Journal

Article: FLOW BEHAVIOR AROUND A HYDROFOIL CLOSE TO A FREE SURFACE

Topics: Non-newtonian fluid mechanics, Turbulence, Turbulence models, Multiphase flows, Multiphase flow modelling

This movie shows the flow behavior around a hydrofoil. A negative pressure generated over the hydrofoil causes large deformation of the free surface and the entrainment phenomena. The shear flow behind the hydrofoil induces instability similar to the Kelvin–Helmholtz instability and results in liquid bubble formation
