Based on the huge success of previous FAIM conferences, FAIM '96 is being hosted this year by the Manufacturing Research Center at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.A. The next conference will take place in June, 1997 at the European Process Industries Competitiveness Center (EPICC Ltd) at the University of Teesside in Middlesbrough, United Kingdom.
The preceding conferences in the U.S.A. and Ireland were dedicated to the main topics of Flexible Automation and Intelligent Manufacturing. As a consequence of international activity in Production Research, which has led to many new developments, FAIM '96 promotes and advances the state-of-the-art in this domain by focusing on intelligent manufacturing. The FAIM conference series differs from many other conferences in that it presents an integrated picture of these related technologies, rather than focusing on one single technology.
This year, authors from approximately 25 countries have contributed more than 90 papers, and as in the case of previous FAIM conferences, each paper has been thoroughly refereed by at least two reviewers.
The objectives of the Sixth International Conference on Flexible Automation and Intelligent Manufacturing (FAIM '96) are to support the international exchange of experience about outstanding industrial developments and the latest results of production research.
