A STUDY ON FLUID MIXING IN A CIRCULAR TUBE DOWNSTREAM OF MIXING JUNCTIONS

Résumé
The characteristics of temperature mixing in a circular tube just downstream of mixing wyes and tees are investigated, and the effects of the ratio of the cross sectional area of the main pipe to that of the branch pipe, the flow rate ratio of the main stream to the merged downstream and the branch angle on the characteristics of fluid mixing are examined. The fluid is air, and the temperature difference between the main and branch streams is less than 10°C. Experiments are carried out for the cross sectional area ratios of 1.0, 3.18 and 6.82 and for the branch angles of 50°, 70°, 90°, 110° and 130°.
As the results, it is found that the down-stream pipe length required for complete mixing become shorter as the branch angle and the cross-sectional area ratio are increased.
