Résumé
Fouling of the inner surface of furnace tubes by coke and iron sulphide is common during heavy oil upgrading. A pilot plant was constructed to simulate and investigate conditions that cause fouling found in commercial furnaces. Laboratory procedures were developed to measure the elemental composition of foulant deposits. The composition of the foulant in pilot plant tests was similar to that collected from commercial furnaces.
