Resumo
The aim of this study was to define by experimental investigation the effect of a wire coil turbulator on heat transfer and fluid flow in a smooth tube. The heat transfer liquids used in the test apparatus were pure water and glycol based heat transfer liquids with different strength. The diameters and pitches of the turbulator wires were 0,8mm/17mm and 1 mm/21 mm. In the smooth tube with wire coil inserts, the heat transfer enhancement was 3 to 5 times larger than the one in the smooth tube, the friction factor was 2 to 6 times higher in the Reynolds number range from 200 to 2000, and it decreased asymptotically when the Reynolds number increased.
