Chapter 4: Role of Life Cycle Assessment in Sustainable Building Ecosystems and Building Energy Comparison between China and the United States
DOI: 10.1615/978-1-56700-279-9.149
The relationship between built environment and ecosystems has always been at the center of research in architecture, engineering, and construction disciplines. Over the past years, different ideas have been developed, discussed, implemented, and evolved. As many studies have acknowledged, built environments account for a significant portion of energy consumption and impacts on the natural environment due to fossil fuel consumption and resource use. Such a phenomenon is observed in both the United States and China.
